Where the mouth of the river Ahr meets the Rhine, the little multifaceted town of Linz is situated.
The numerous narrow alleyways displaying cheery timber framing invite the visitor to be lost in
reverie.
Directly next to the well preserved town gate, you will find Linz Castle.
In the year 1365, it was constructed by the archbishop of Cologne in order to collect custom fees
for ship transports on the Rhine, for which it served until the abolishment in the beginning of the
19th century.
Today, the Castle, which was redeveloped on the basis of private funding in 1984, accommodates
the electoral gastronomy "Kurfürstliche Burggastronomie" and thus offers the ideal setting for social
gatherings of any kind, ranging from the coffee party to company picnics.
Besides the daily á la carte service, the electoral gastronomy "Kurfürstliche Burggastronomie" has
specialized on medieval revelries and gatherings of all kind.
The host and chef Uwe Kilian is personally responsible for the physical well-being of his guests and,
being a member of the FCEE, he creates the most delicious dishes for his visitors. Whether you order
a´ la carte or engage in one of the famous chivalric suppers, like the electoral table, consisting of a
spit, roasted potatoes and hefty mustard vegetables, the cuisine of Linz Castle offers something for
every taste.
After arrangement, it is possible to visit the torture chamber in the dungeon. The torture instruments
on display will make some of the visitors shiver. They are relics of a time where belated payers were
kept in the dungeons until their debt was settled.
After reaching the Castle’s inner courtyard again, the guests will receive a hefty welcome drink. After
a large draught from the horn, the journey continues to the chivalric supper. The first course consists
of roasted ribs, like they were once eaten by the knaves. Corn-on-the-cob and tender poultry are other
treats awaiting the guests.
Between the courses, fun will not get a raw deal since at Linz Castle a happy atmosphere is always
guaranteed. In the course of the night, some of the guests will turn into knights or maidens – which
will also be documented by snapshots for the family album.
The third course of the chivalric supper consists of a hefty knuckle of pork. The chivalric supper is
rounded of not only by freshly baked sweet pastry but also by a hefty pinch of snuff.
According to previous arrangements, the events and chivalric suppers may include a medieval program.
Two of the many attractions are Tiderus, the bard and Jo, the juggler, who, as masters of ceremony,
lead through the respective program.
Wearing the juggler’s original garments from medieval times, Jo manages quickly to enchant the guests.
Fire is the element of Jo, the juggler. Besides juggling with burning torches, breathing and eating fire are
the climaxes of Jo’s show, with which he manages to amaze the guests every time.
Tiderius, the bard plays songs from various centuries and thus gives a medieval atmosphere to any event.
Tiderius insists on the engagement of the guests and thus, many discover their hidden musical talents.
That way, an extraordinary evening comes to an end for the visitors at Linz Castle.
